EARTH DAY on Friday

Happy Earth Day this Friday everyone!  Here are a few ideas of local resources and opportunities I've gathered for your consideration.

- (Note to self for next year): City of Summit does an Earth Day Clean up in the local parks each year - in early April.  Of course, you and your family can do your very own Parks Clean Up day any day.

- Go on a nature walk in the Watchung Reservation (Summit/New Providence), Reeves Arboretum (Summit), South Mountain Reserve (Milburn), the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge (Berkley Heights), or any of the other great parks in our area!

- Check out upcoming events for the Summit Free Market! http://www.summitfreemarket.org/events.php

- Recycle all of your families old tennis and running shoes.  (If many of you are interested in this, we can set up a collection box at the church and I would be happy to drive them to the drop-off in Elizabeth.  Let me know!).  See how they are re-purposed here:  http://www.nikereuseashoe.com/

- As you do your Spring Cleaning this year, be sure to offer clothes and household items to friends, and then take any leftovers to a local thrift store rather than tossing them in the garbage.  (Feel free to contact me to post your items on this blog!)

And here are a few fun and interesting websites for review:
- Recycling 101 http://earth911.com/recycling/, and 50 Things you can Recycle http://www.squidoo.com/recycle-everything
- 50 Things you can Reuse http://www.squidoo.com/reuse-everything

Have a wonderful week and a very happy Earth Day!
~Jill
